Device Configuration Tablets
Device configuration tablets for commissioning and maintenance of field devices.
Device Configuration Tablets
Device configuration tablets are mobile, rugged computing platforms used to commission, diagnose, and document digitally communicating field devices. They combine industrial tablet hardware with configuration software so parameterization and troubleshooting can be performed at the device, at a control cabinet, or wherever access is available. This approach compresses commissioning and maintenance workflows into a single, portable toolset.
Connectivity is designed around real access paths. Point‑to‑point connections can be made directly at a device or from the cabinet using suitable USB or Bluetooth interfaces, and multi‑device “point‑to‑bus” access can be achieved via a gateway. Wireless access can be established through Wi‑Fi infrastructure or a hotspot when temporary connectivity is sufficient, enabling efficient work even where hardwired ports are impractical.
The configuration environment emphasizes broad protocol coverage and a consistent user experience. A single tablet can support standards such as HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, and Modbus, alongside manufacturer-specific service interfaces. Automatic hardware detection and touch‑optimized navigation reduce connection time and error rates when repeated tasks - tag verification, parameter checks, or loop validation - dominate project schedules.
Value increases further through diagnostics, libraries, and documentation. Windows-based platforms equipped with configuration software and extensive DTM libraries provide immediate access to both Endress+Hauser and third‑party devices, with updates that keep driver sets current. Diagnostics aligned with NAMUR NE 107 support consistent interpretation of device status. Report generation (configuration records, verification outputs, diagnostic summaries) strengthens traceability and helps standardize procedures across sites and over time. Connection to digital services such as Netilion Analytics and Netilion Library supports central storage of device configuration reports and asset information.
Typical applications include loop commissioning, device swaps, periodic verification, and structured troubleshooting when diagnostics indicate drift or abnormal behavior. They are also effective for standardizing configuration templates across similar assets and for supporting work in both hazardous and non‑hazardous areas while minimizing the number of dedicated tools and interfaces required.
