Lean Temperature Transmitters
Temperature transmitters convert low-level sensor signals from RTDs and thermocouples into stable, standardized output signals suitable for control-system integration. While classic transmitters focus on signal conditioning, modern digital transmitters expand into intelligent, flexible devices that improve accuracy and provide additional measurement-point value through diagnostics and communication features. They form a critical link in the measurement chain, influencing both the quality of the temperature variable and the reliability of downstream control and protection functions.
The iTEMP transmitter offering is positioned to cover broad installation styles and approvals. Housing and mounting formats include DIN-rail transmitters for panels, head transmitters for integration into thermometer heads, and field transmitters for direct placement in the process area. Variants for hazardous areas are included, along with options such as secure Bluetooth® interfaces for remote parameterization and support for integration via common communication protocols. Portfolio direction also highlights digitalization paths such as Ethernet‑APL and IO‑Link.
Key benefits concentrate on measurement integrity and robustness. Accuracy improvement is attributed to stable output behavior, lab calibration, and sensor/electronics matching (including linearization approaches such as Callendar–Van Dusen for RTDs) alongside galvanic isolation to reduce error mechanisms. Safety enhancements include hazardous-area suitability, availability of additional diagnostics (including corrosion detection concepts), and options such as SIL approvals and dual-channel inputs for sensor backup, drift detection, or redundancy strategies.
Usability and standardization are equally important in day-to-day operation. Parameterization and monitoring can be performed via Bluetooth or digital communications, and local indication can be supported through integrated or pluggable displays. Standardization of output signals enables consistent use of input cards, barriers, and cabling from the transmitter to the control unit, reducing variability across projects and installed base expansions.
Typical applications span essentially all process temperature points where an RTD/TC must be transported reliably to an automation system - especially in electrically noisy environments, long cable runs, or when digital diagnostics and configuration management are desired. Selection focuses on sensor compatibility, required approvals, communications strategy, mounting style, and the degree of diagnostics needed to support maintenance and reliability objectives.
